For Michael Austin Harris, music has always been connected to the heart. His childhood listening ranged from the gospel voices of Mahalia Jackson, The Winans and Richard Smallwood to the sounds of Nat King Cole, Amy Grant, Chicago and Phil Collins. Those varied influences helped shape a songwriter comfortable exploring different genres while staying rooted in meaningful expression. Michael’s journey has taken him from solo performances and group singing to directing choirs, worship leading and studying his craft. In 2004, he earned a degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from Oakwood University. Along the way, he has worked with award-winning producers Erik Griggs and Kelvin Wooten. Writing across Gospel, CCM, Country, Folk, R&B;, Reggae and Hip-Hop, Michael draws on faith, love and the experiences of life. At the center of his work is a simple desire: to create music that gives listeners hope, encourages healing and speaks life.
